Why are Paula's Choice Blemish Fighting Solutions not available in the European Union?

The active ingredient in Paula's Choice Blemish Fighting Solutions is benzoyl peroxide. Under European Union Cosmetics Regulations products containing this ingredient are considered to be over-the-counter drugs and must be formally registered as such. As a consequence, products containing benzoyl peroxide may be bought at the pharmacy or the chemist, without a doctor's prescription being required, but they cannot be sold by a cosmetic company. For this reason Paula's Choice Blemish Fighting Solutions are not available in the European Union.

For those with blemished skin, looking for an alternative for Paula's Choice Blemish Fighters, products containing benzoyl peroxide (the active ingredient in the Blemish Fighters) are usually available at the pharmacy or chemist without requiring a prescription. Start with a regular strength benzoyl peroxide product. A higher concentration (up to 10%) may be a better option for stubborn breakouts. Make sure your anti-blemish product does not contain any of the following potentially irritating ingredients: denatured, grain, or ethyl alcohol, camphor, eucalyptus, menthol or peppermint.
