Thank you for submitting your review! It will be reviewed by our staff before it is posted.Living in such a sunny country is essential for daily facial protection. I have tried many sunscreen products specifically for the face and with different SPF values many times. I always found them to be either too shiny, too greasy or unable to wear makeup over them, some even seem to whiten the face too much. I have recently bought this product from Paula's Choice sun range and haven't stopped using it on a daily basis. It not only has a high factor of 50, but it also allows me to apply my make up over it after I would have left it set in for a few minutes. I will surely re-purchase. Thanks Paula.I really did want to like this product and I have been trying it out for a while now. But the burning is way to bad!!! Even after I rinse it of does it burn, especially around the eye area, the collarbone and my underarms. Really where ever I have thin skin. I wish I had read the reviews prior to buying it =/
Customer Care: We are sorry to hear of your experience and discomfort. Unfortunately, not everyone reacts in the same way to skin-care ingredients, and some can be more sensitive to a particular ingredient than others. Please contact our customer care team to discuss alternatives.I've used the PC Retinol 1% for a month now and when I ran out of my usual sunscreen spf 50 I bought the PC spf 50. My face is now on fire. Is it supposed to feel like this? Is there a ton of alcohol or something in this that may permanantly ruin my skin?? I never had any problem with my previous sunscreen so what's going on??? Should I stop using this on my face? This is also a very shiny kind of sunscreen, makes me look like I'm sweating like crazy. Will go back to the sunscreen I used to buy...
Customer Care: Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear of your experience and discomfort. Although this is not a common response, we do understand that each customer is uniquely different in how they will respond to products or ingredients. We kindly advise to discontinue use of this product, irritation never is a goal. Possibly you are able to use this sunscreen on your body, as this usually is less sensitive.I only use this on my face when I know I will be out in the sun for a while, but it definately holds up perfectly. Just don't get it too near the eyes! I brought it with me for a 3 week holiday in South-east Asia, and as everyone else kept gettingg sunburns I gave them this one to try - and it stopped. They even felt it calming and cooling on the skin, like those "after sun" products! Mostly we were pleasantly surprised by the texture, as it is thin and runny and easily applied compared to other spf 50s.I used this on holiday and can't´t seem to make up my mind about this... The are both good things and bad things about this products so here they are:
+ a great texture: light, smooth and absorbs quickly
+ high sunscreen and good protection
+ antioxidants (this is a great plus for a sunscreen I guess)
- It stings quite a lot for a long time (as others have mentioned)
- I got pimples on my chest and back at first using this (this has happened before with some other sunscreens also and i guess it is only temporary). Not a single pimple on my face though.
- this claims to be matte but on my oily skin it isn´t. It is too shiny even when absorbed.
I guess I have to keep experimenting with this.I never run out of this. I use it every morning at winter time, and in the summer I re-apply often during the day. The only drawback, for those with oily skin, is that it's not really matte. I have combination skin, so I use the RESIST ANTI-AGING SUPER-LIGHT MOISTURIZER SPF30 on the T-zone, and this one on the rest of the face and neck. It's also great for people living in places with a lot of sun, like me, because it's affordable too, so you can use it liberally, like you are supposed to when it comes to sunscreen.I have been using this snuscreen and I Love it, thought it can be heavy on skin with make up, but the mouisture is fobaulas, and it keep s my face hydratet the hole day .
I do a lot of outdoor activity and I like to be safe in the sun , so this does a freat job for my skin .I don’t wear make-up, so a non-greasy, matte sunscreen for the face is important to me. I normally use a sunscreen from a different brand, but as it is quite expensive, I thought I’d try this one out.
This sunscreen unfortunately didn’t suit me. It wasn’t as matte as my previous sunscreen, and I got some kind of an allergic reaction. My whole face turned red and it stung a lot. Reading the other reviews, it seems like some other people have also gotten side effects from this. So I suggest you buy a sample and try it out before you buy the actual product. I haven’t had problems with other Paula’s Choice products.
(Sorry for my bad English.)I have a light scandinavian skin, burn easy and exfoliate but love sun and the beach. Every single time I was on vacation at least a part of my body got burned - really bad. Last year in the Caribbean was a total dissaster but this time I bought 3 tubes of Paula's. It was absolutelly amazing! I applied in the morning all over my body and never had a problem, even got to stay on beaches without shadow in the second week , the whole day without getting burned. And got home with a really nice brown colour even if it is 50SPF. reapllied maybe 2 or 3 times during the day, used 2,5 tubes in 2 weeks and I must say I have a big body surface :)
Easy to apply, get into skin really fast. The only problem was that with a few ocasion - after swimming and sunbathing, sand on my face because of the wind- it stung on the face, not nice but totally acceptable. No rashes or eczemas, no redness. Never got this on clean skin.
My chest and back skin reacts to sun and always get a sunallergie on those areas but cannot connect it with this product.
Will definetely buy againI wouldn't recommend this as a product for sensitive skin. Like others have noted, it stings on my face, and breaks out the skin on my back and chest. Usually I like Paula's Choice, but this product disappointed me.I'm pretty bummed that this product stings my face so much - I lead a very outdoorsy life and really wanted to like this sunscreen because of it's high SPF and water resistant qualities… unfortunately it severely irritates and burns a few minutes after application. It's ok on the body though for me. Back to Hydralight for my face…I just waited more than 5 months to do a review from this product. To be honest I am not sure how many stars I have to give it because i find it is a good sunscreen but for sensitive skin it is not good. I have oily and sensitive skin and I wanted to like this product but since the first time I started to use it my face start to burn sometimes even painfully but I kept trying because I wanted to find a reason why this and not others sunscreen have this negative impact in my skin. I have realised that if I used alone, I mean with nothing else just my face washed I have no problems so I believe there is something when it is mixed with others Paula's products. So I decided to prove differents ways and I found out that if i dont use the BHA solution at the same time my skin reacts better so the burn is more less. I dont want to mean that it is a bad product, I say again I find it is a very good sunscreen that protect my face from sun specially when doing outdoor sports like hiking, trekking, skiing, climbing etc, but as I have told before I have to put it alone. Anyway I hope that Paula finds something less agressive for sensitive skin
Customer Care: Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of your experience. For oily, sensitive skin we now have an excellent option: Hydralight Shine-Free Daily Mineral Complex SPF 30 with AntioxidantsI do not tend to have particularly sensitive skin anymore but found this very stingy near the eye area. I would strongly recommend it as a body sunscreen but not as a facial sunscreen for anyone that has any sensitivity. I wasn't aware of any other high (40 or over) factor facial sunscreen available in this range but let me know if there is; I do think that Paula's Choice produces excellent products. In the meantime, I will revert to Revision factor 50.Customer Care : Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear of your experience with this product. While this response is not typical, we do understand that each customer is uniquely different in how they will respond to products or ingredients. This along with everyday environmental factors can sometimes play a part in how someone will ultimately respond to a product or combination of products. An option you may consider is the RESIST Ultimate Anti-Aging Hand Cream SPF 30+ which may certainly be used on the face and many have found it works great as a light facial moisturizer. It is a mineral sunscreen which is very soothing for extra sensitive skin. It is our pleasure to send you some samples by post.It feels great on the skin, no greasy film, non sticky. And I love it because it is fragrance free- almost every other sunscreen smells sweet and heavy. the only place where I feel a slight stinging sensation - the eyebrows. I have no idea why.
I want to use it during the summer , combined with the BHA treatment. sounds like a good investment!I feel I am getting good coverage but cannot use this product on my face. As soon as I put it on, the skin on my face starts to burn. So, I use this product on the rest of my body Customer Care : We are sorry to hear that this product did not work out for you on the face. Our Customer Service will be more than happy to assist you in finding another product that will work better for you. Please note that Paula's Choice also has a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee return policy within 30 days of purchase.
.I purchased this because I know Paula recommends higher SPF. Immediately after I apply, my skin starts "burning" and becomes irritated. I am very excited about other Paula's Choice products (I use only P'sC) but this one seems really harmful to me. I would really like to return this one and have another one instead, but having to pay the shipping back (at least 15 euro I guess), then reorder and pay again the shipping for just one product seems no "money back guarantee" to me!Customer Care:Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experiences and our customer care department will contact you to find a suitable solution. This is a wonderful sunscreen, non greasy at all. I know it sounds impossible, but it doesn't leave any oily trace, and feels like you had sealed your skin. I used to put in my face La Roche Possai Antihelios 50, which was the least greasy I had ever found, until I tried this today. I will never buy anything else from now on. Thank you, Paula!I really like the feeling of the product on my skin, besides the fact it's so water-resistant. However, just a few seconds after I put on my face it starts burning and it stays like that until I remove it. I never had any problem with the other PC sunscreens for only skin, so maybe my skin's reaction is due to the higher amount of oxybenzone in this one. I'll use on my body, though, since it has a very nice non-greasy feeling.
Customer Care: It is possible that due to the active ingredients in this product it could be leading to the burning feeling. It is hard to say because each person's skin will react tdifferently to products. We advise you to try out one of Paula's Choice other sunscreen products.Wow! This is just amazing, finally I have found my Holy Grail sunscreen, after trying everything on the market I can say that this feels like no other I´ve tried, now I can use it under my make up without any greasiness, white casts, shine, weird scents or colours. I have tried 3 samples of this and I´m going to order a full size bottle. I highly recommend it!I tried this one just on my face and found it stung a little around the nose area. I put it in my drawer and forgot about it until, I went to the beach 3 weeks later. I put it on my upper body and bottom half of my legs and feet. It was a hot day and I reapplied it about twice. I was out for about 6 hours and that night when I took a shower I was exactly the same colour as I was that morning. I am so delighted to have found a sunscreen that isn't sticky or thick and gloopy and that it does what it says on the tube. I'm definitely a fan of this one!

Frequently asked questions
Is Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50 suitable for blemish-prone skin?
Although it is impossible to state with certainty that someone will not break out from a sunscreen, the texture and finish of Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50 is very unlikely to cause such problems. Oftentimes what causes breakouts from sunscreens are either the active ingredients or the ingredients used create the product's texture. Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF50 contains lightweight ingredients and its active ingredients are less likely to trigger or exacerbate blemishes.
I thought Paula said sunscreens rated above SPF 30 weren't needed—SPF 30 is enough, right?
For the most part, SPF 30 is sufficient. But there are two reasons why you may want to consider a higher SPF. Many dermatologists feel that a higher SPF is necessary because most people don't apply sunscreen liberally, and when there is a higher concentration of sunscreen active ingredients (as would be the case in a sunscreen with a higher SPF number) you would be getting better protection even if you didn't apply it liberally. The other reason to consider a higher SPF is if you want to stay in the sun for even longer periods of time and have very fair to light skin color. Although Paula has spoken out against the fact that other companies offer sunscreens with oftentimes ridiculously high SPF ratings (such as SPF 70 or 100), the issue has always been that such products tend to give consumers a false sense of security. They erroneously believe that a higher SPF only needs to be applied once as they spend the day in the sun. That is not the case for any sunscreen number. A sunscreen rated SPF 30 or above provides longer but not better protection. That means you can stay in the sun longer before your skin shows signs of turning color, but does not negate the need to reapply every two hours after periods of swimming, perspiring, or toweling off. We suggest our Extra Care Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 50 for those who will be spending several hours outdoors and/or engaging in water-based activities. Liberal application and routine re-application is necessary in order to maintain the high level of sun protection.
