Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants for Normal to Oily/Combination Skin

    Quick Question
    Review by Cristina

To Customer Care: Hello! I have recently started using Paula's Choice products and I find them very effective. Since I have acne-prone, combination/oily skin, I thought about trying the CLEAR Toner (regular), but I am aware that I would also need a sunscreen lotion. Do you think this lotion and the toner would make a goog combination? Also, is this lotion a good base for make up? Thank you! (Posted on 27/04/2012)
if only this had a higher spf

I am in my late 30s, still get the odd spot and have oily/combination skin. This lotion is perfect for me but I keep having to resort to trying other Paula's Choice products to get a higher spf. The Resist Clear daily defence moisturiser is just too greasy for my skin. If only this were 25, not 15 spf it would be perfect ...
Customer Care: Thank you for your feedback. Thanks to the expriences of our customers, we would like to advise you to try our RESIST Ultimate Anti-Aging handcream with SPF 30 and antioxidants as a facial moisturizer. (Posted on 21/04/2012)
    Does what one would expect!

The moisturizer has initially a quite watery feel and it takes a little while for it to absorb, but as it's absorbed it leaves a matte finish and does not look shiny at all. Post-shaving or when my skin is very fragile it does feel a bit uncomfortable to begin with, but it fades within a couple of seconds; and, I might add, everything except vaseline would feel like that when put on after you've done with the razor.

The moisturizer does not keep the skin matte all day long -- but I fear that there is no such thing as a moisturizer that does that. I've used, after hearing about it from Paula, the plain old laxative Milk of Magnesia on my face prior to applying the moisturizer with great result in reducing shine: it's easily put on with a make-up sponge and the moisturizer takes away the white residue the MoM leaves behind.

The amount is not that much, but as I've understood, bigger tubes means longer time spent after being open in my bathroom cabinet where the antioxidants and the cell-communicating ingredients would go ineffective due to contact with oxygen. I also do not feel that you need to use that much of it, especially if used together with a toner and serum, as they both provide "moist" too. I use it mainly so that I, because I use no foundation, will get protection from the evil sun. (Posted on 17/04/2012)
    Packaging Issue

I recently ordered this product and I have a question about the packaging: the picture and the video on the site show that it should have a pump. The product I receive does not have one. Did you change the packaging recently?

Customer Care: Thank you for your review. The packaging for this product changed in summer 2011. We are currently awaiting another change, and will be updating the video and picture as soon as possible (Posted on 10/04/2012)

I am a fan of all Paulas products and this is not an exception. I use it sparingly though since I have quite oily skin and on top of an antioxidant serum in the mornings. If i need a more mattifying effect i use the shine stopper on top! (Posted on 28/03/2012)
    Nice, light, but not shine-free

The texture is pleasant, the product spreads out amazingly well so you need very little, no skin irritation, no stickiness.
The only downside for me is the finish; I end up being shiny everywhere instead of just on my T-zone. I love the product regardless and will buy it again when my current tube runs out because finding a good moisturiser with SPF that doesn't worsen my skin's condition is a rare find. I bought this for myself and my husband to try, as we both suffer from combination skin, with oily t-zones. He particularly suffers from large pores, and blackheads on and around his nose. Since using this product for a couple of months, they have definitely improved in appearance!! He's very happy. As for me, I find this product keeps my face shine-free all day, without using powder - which is quite a feat! Lovely to use, about to order my second bottle. (Posted on 04/12/2011)
The Most Wearable Sunscreen I've Tried
    Review by Joshua

This is a superb product for combination-oily skin. A sufficient moisturiser in its own right (for this skin-type), it provides a sleek matte finish and an excellent level of sun protection. It feels very light on my skin without a hint of grease, and has never exacerbated or caused me any blemishes. To top this all off, it is also soothing and non-irritating! The only drawbacks are:
    - The amount of product is on the stingy side - each tube does not last me more than 4-5 weeks of daily application. A better value larger size would be brilliant.
    - The SPF could stand to be higher. Why should oily-skin need less protection than the dry skin-types?
I would also advise that it is not to be relied on for a durable matte finish; I tend to reinforce this through a combination of loose powder and Paula's Shine-stopper (Posted on 25/09/2011)
    Perfect for my needs

I really like this moisturiser. I find the SPF15 is adequate for my daytime needs (I bought it as a moisturiser anyway, not to replace a sunscreen) & if I'm going to be outside for more than 30mins I apply a SPF30 or 50 sunscreen. I like how this moisturiser feels on my skin & I love that it only has the barest pleasant scent of sunscreen. With any other moisturiser I've tried I would end up with an oily sheen on my T-zone but it's been 8 hours since application & no sign of oil. An impressive product that does what it says on the tube. (Posted on 03/08/2011)
Almost perfect but expensive and not much of it in the tube

SPF should be 30 not 15 which seems a bit too low.Non greasy formula feels great on my skin and I like it a lot. However it is very expensive if you consider how much of it you get :-/ (Posted on 04/05/2011)
very good product, shame about low spf

I have combination skin, with an oily t-zone and have spent years looking for a sunscreen that didn't make my face look or feel greasy (I've tried other PC ones also). It goes on easily and is quickly absorbed and works well with my makeup and no oil slick. Plus antioxidants for skin, all that earns it a 5 in my book.
However, I'm also buying it for sun protection, and SPF15 is just too low for me. I spend alot of time outdoors and by windows and would really appreciate a SPF30 with the same formulation. So I'm rating it a 3, very good attempt, but I'll have to keep searching. Customer Care: Thank you for your feedback. We will be sure to share this with Paula and her team. (Posted on 16/12/2010)

I received this today and I am very happy with how it applied and felt on my skin. Even better my Bobbi Brown Skin foundation went on well after this and this is not usually the case with BB's foundations and other brands of moisturiser. Usually only BB moisturisers work with her line which contain irritating essential oils and are more expensive. So now I have a 3 in 1 product; a mattifying moisturiser, SPF15 and primer all at a fantastic price. The only downside with Paula's Choice, and it is nothing to do with the products, is the postage and packaging cost to the UK. I have made 3 purchases in the last 6 weeks or so and it has cost £6.95 p&p each time. Whilst this won't put me off buying (my sensitive, eczema prone skin tolerates these products well and my skin is finally becoming clear, balanced and glowing) I personally feel that this may deter others from buying and this would be a shame. Thanks Paula for a great line and honest reviews.
Customer Care : We are happy to inform our UK customers that, as of 1 September 2010, P&P has been reduced to £ 4,95. (Posted on 08/07/2010)

This sunscreen is light and non-greasy. I have very oily skin with acne and blackheads - sunscreen has always made my skin feel uncomfortable and greasy. Originally from Australia, I understand the importance of good sun protection. I have spent a fortune on 'non-greasy' sun creams over the years and nothing beats this product. (Posted on 27/06/2009)

If you have oily and blemish prone skin or simply don't want to leave a shiny finish every time you apply a sunscreen then this is your product. It absorbs quickly and it has a matte finish, doesn't make blemishes or blackheads, doesn't irritate and you don't realize you're wearing a sunscreen. Also it has beneficial ingredients for skin although I think It could be upgraded with more&good new antioxidants. The pity is that it has only SPF 15 so you need to reaply at least every 4h. (Posted on 19/05/2009)
Apply liberally to skin, especially before sun exposure. Do not apply any other skin-care product over sunscreen. You can apply foundation or pressed powder over sunscreens. For use on children under six months of age, consult a doctor.

    TIPS AND TROUBLESHOOTING:
  • Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants is not water-resistant and must not be used while swimming or doing vigorous outdoor exercise during the day.
  • It is essential to use a product with sunscreen every day, whether it is in your foundation or moisturizer. This is true for all skin types and colors.
  • Moisturizers with sunscreen should always be the last skin-care product you apply. If it is not, you are diluting its effectiveness. The exception to this is foundation or powder, which, if used, should be applied carefully so as not to rub the sunscreen off. Allow the moisturizer with sunscreen to absorb prior to makeup application.
  • Avobenzone may cause a yellow discoloration on white cotton clothing if you live in an area that has iron in the water. It is the iron that causes the avobenzone to turn color. The resulting stain can be remedied by washing with a detergent that contains chelating agents (ingredients that prevent minerals from binding to surfaces or substances) such as Fab or All.

Should I reapply Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion during the day?

For casual wear, meaning less than four hours total time out in the sun, it is not necessary to reapply sunscreen as you will be protected all day. If you are perspiring or just spending a longer period of time outdoors, it should be reapplied.

If I wish to maintain the mattifying benefit of this product, should I apply it at night, too?

We don't recommend wearing any sunscreen at night because the actives aren't needed in the evening and provide no other benefit for skin. Instead, use our Skin Balancing Super Antioxidant Mattifying Concentrate. You'll maintain a matte finish while reserving the sun protection in Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion for daytime, when skin needs it most.

How is Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants different from the Essential Non-Greasy Sunscreen SPF 15?

Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion with SPF 15 and Antioxidants is a completely different formula. It is designed specifically for the face and contains effective absorbents to help keep skin smooth and matte. Because facial skin is always exposed to the elements (including sunlight), Skin Balancing Daily Mattifying Lotion contains a greater array and amount of antioxidants as well as cell-communicating ingredients—all to help keep skin healthy and protected.
